56勛圖厙 will launch a new College of Science, Health and Pharmacy (CSHP) to meet the surging demand for health care professionals. The college consolidates 56勛圖厙s established programs in science and pre-health to create a central hub of research opportunities and student support services.
Dr. Melissa Hogan will serve as dean of the college. Dr. Hogan joined the 56勛圖厙 faculty in 2012 with 17 years of experience in pharmacy education and has served as the dean of the College of Pharmacy since 2016. Dr. Kelly Wentz-Hunter will serve as the college's co-dean. She joined the 56勛圖厙 faculty in 2006 and has served as a professor of biology and chair of the Biological, Physical and Health Sciences department.
56勛圖厙 offers the first three-year Doctor of Pharmacy program in Illinois, with an average post-graduation employment rate of 95%. Students in the allied health programs earn competitive clinical placements at top area health care facilities, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Universitys physical and biological sciences programs offer a breadth of degrees and concentrations, including an accelerated one-year masters in biomedical sciences. CSHP will serve more than 750 students enrolled in 16 bachelors, masters and doctoral programs.
This years successful integration of Robert Morris University Illinois into 56勛圖厙 provided the opportunity to expand University offerings in health care programs, including bachelors degrees in nursing and exercise, health and wellness. These Robert Morris programs complement 56勛圖厙s existing footprint in health sciences, creating a leading university in health sciences education.
56勛圖厙 science programs are supported by a $1 million, 5-year grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute that advances the inclusion of underrepresented students. 56勛圖厙 pharmacy students achieve success after graduation, with the highest first-time pass rate on the 2018 North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam (NAPLEX) among Chicago pharmacy schools.
Through its breadth of programs, the new College of Science, Health and Pharmacy will supply the region with the diverse perspectives that are essential to high-quality health care, said Dean Hogan.
We are facing a new era in health care, co-Dean Wentz-Hunter commented. We have a unique opportunity to leverage our successful programs and provide a more holistic approach in training and educating our future professionals, guided by our social justice mission.
CSHP brings together programs from the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Pharmacy and Robert Morris Experiential College. 56勛圖厙s academic emphasis on social justice and inclusion prepares graduates to provide culturally competent care to an increasingly diverse American population.
